Manchester City were simply just too strong for a Newport County side who put a solid performance.
The game started with Riyad Mahrez on the right wing. He skilfully twisted in and out whilst getting closer to the goal before unleashing a shot. Joe Day could only save it with his leg to deny an early goal.
After Manchester City’s quick start Newport County would get a golden opportunity as a long throw from Mickey Demetriou found Bakinson who would have found the bottom corner if it was not for a fantastic save from Ederson.
Leroy Sane played a quick one-two with David Silva in order to open the Newport County defence before smashing the ball against the crossbar as they pushed for the opener.
There were penalty shouts late on in the half as Leroy Sane twisted in and out before unleashing a venomous shot which O’Brien put his body in front of. However, it did appear to strike his hand. The penalty was not awarded.

The game started back up with Manchester City opening the scoring. Sane fired a shot through Joe day’s hands and it him in the face before looping up and in. A very unlucky goal to concede for the home side.
Danilo tried to double City’s lead. He played a one-two with Jesus before his shot from the right-hand side hit the post.
Phil Foden would in fact double City’s lead later on the game. He charged through the Newport defence before firing a shot which bounced in front of Day and found its way into the goal.
Not too long later however, Padraig Amond would keep up his task of scoring in every round of the FA Cup. A hopeful ball is poorly dealt with by Laporte which allows Amond to delicately chip the ball over Ederson.
The comeback was instantly wiped out however as Phil Foden bagged his second of the night just a minute later. Again, he charged through the Newport defence before his rocket of a shot found the top corner.
Mahrez made it four for the away team. Mahrez was released down the left wing and fired a low driven shot at the near post which beat the goalkeeper. Day would have been disappointed with that one.
