CARDIFF City travel up to Newcastle to play in another game to try and help them avoid relegation.

Cardiff were unable to capitalise on their previous game against Huddersfield and only picked up a draw.

Newcastle on the other hand, faced a very difficult test in the form of Chelsea. They nearly snatched a 1-1 draw but fell just short and lost 2-1.

Newcastle have been involved in the FA Cup this week as they beat championship side Blackburn 4-2 in extra time with a semi weakened side. Will this have an effect on the energy of the squad to play Cardiff today?

The point Cardiff earner was important as it meant they overtook Newcastle and still remain out the bottom three.

A big positive for Cardiff is that they have strengthened for the game. Oumar Niasse, has joined the Bluebirds on liam until the end of the season with a view to make the move permanent.

Whilst Niasse’s goal scoring record at first glance doesn’t look the best, you have to look further in to find out how good of a player he is. In 24 starts in the Premier League he has recorded 12 goals and 3 assists. With Cardiff failing to score on quite a few occasions he should be a valuable asset.

One player also set to join but unable to play is Emiliano Sala. A £15 million offer was accepted and he had a medical for the club yesterday. However, he will not be registered in time for the Newcastle game.

Newcastle are yet to sign anyone which could hinder their chances of survival.

We may even see the battle of the Murphy twins again as Jacob of Newcastle takes on Josh of Cardiff.

I believe the signing of Niasse comes at the perfect time. The Cardiff City fans will be excited to see what the new player has to offer meaning the support will be even greater.

Team News

Cardiff City, Niasse is very likely to feature. Captain Sean Morrison, however is set to miss out after the club stated he went through “a procedure.”

Newcastle United, have quite a few players needing to be assessed with the likes of strong defensive partners, Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark. Isaac Hayden and Fabian Schar also looked to be injured in their last game against Blackburn. These players could join the likes of Kenedy, Mo Diame, Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett.

My predictions

Newcastle United 0-1 Cardiff City

I believe the Bluebirds will distance themselves away from the drop zone as they know just how important this game is and with a lot of Newcastle players potentially out it could result in them playing a weakened side.
